 On March 20, 2023, the Kibwa Women Self-Help Group organized a crucial mass sensitization event in Kibwa village, Wakiso District, aimed at raising awareness about sexual violence. The initiative brought together women, girls, men, and youth from the community to engage in meaningful discussions about the impacts of sexual violence and the importance of prevention.

The event featured a series of informative workshops led by experts in gender-based violence and health. Participants learned about the signs of abuse, legal rights, and available support services. Interactive sessions encouraged open dialogue, allowing attendees to share their experiences and concerns in a safe environment.

On June 15, 2023, a pivotal survey was conducted in Namutumba District, Busoga region, aimed at introducing the impactful programs and projects of the Kibwa Women Self-Help Group. This initiative focused on empowering teenage mothers who had dropped out of school due to the COVID-19 outbreak, offering them essential skills in tailoring and liquid soap making.

With the support of local leaders, including LC1 Chairman Mr. Mugabe Grace of Namutumba Town Council and LC2 Chairman Mr. Isabirye Peter of Kigalama Parish, the survey aimed to gather insights from the community. Their involvement lent credibility to the effort and encouraged participation among residents.

As community members gathered for the survey, there was a palpable sense of hope. The local leaders emphasized the importance of education and vocational training, inspiring many young mothers to share their experiences and aspirations. In Uganda, two-thirds of children drop out of school before completing their primary education. 67% of children living in Kampala slums do not attend school.

To promote water hygiene and facility we work with many local water and sanitation committees to oversee the maintenance of water bodies and water points. We work simultaneously with them to promote sustainability among water related programmes. We organize campaigns to promote safe water, Prevent water, sanitation and hygiene practices among slum areas. We work on many ideas and research on new sanitation products, ideas and tools.

Uganda has the sixteenth highest prevalence of child marriage in the world (UNICEF) especially among the less educated and low income households are at risk of harmful practices, including child marriage and female genital mutilation.

Women and girls living in mining areas suffer enduring physical and mental health. This frustrates their ability to survive and often their families to engage in meaningful productive lives. Sometimes, men too experience violence in such settings.

Kibwa Women believes a hunger-free world is possible. The right food at the right time saves lives, improves health and education, and empowers communities to become self-reliant.
